Rugby

Rugby is a team sport that originated in England in the early 19th century. It is played with an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which is marked with goal lines at each end. The objective of the game is to score points by carrying the ball over the opposing team’s goal line to score a try, or by kicking the ball through the goalposts to score a conversion or a penalty.

Rugby is characterized by its physicality and continuous play, with two teams typically consisting of 15 players in the traditional form of the game (Rugby Union) or 13 players in Rugby League. Players can handle the ball, pass it, and tackle opponents to gain possession. The sport places a strong emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and fitness.

There are various formats of rugby, including Rugby Union, Rugby League, and Sevens, with each having its own specific rules and styles of play. Rugby has a global following and is governed by the World Rugby organization, which oversees international competitions and the rules of the game. Whether played professionally or recreationally, rugby is known for its core values of respect, integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
