Football

Football is a team sport that involves two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, competing to score goals by getting a round ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played predominantly using the feet, although players can use any part of their body except their arms and hands (goalkeepers are an exception).

Facilitated by a rectangular field with a goal at each end, the objective of the game is to outscore the opponent within a set period, usually consisting of two halves of 45 minutes each. Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and enforced by referees during matches.

Considered the world’s most popular sport, football is played and followed by millions of people globally, with major competitions such as the FIFA World Cup and various domestic leagues attracting vast audiences. The sport has numerous variations, including association football (commonly referred to simply as “football” in most countries) and American football, which features different rules and gameplay.
